Working with Your Resumes once Converted to Word Format

Posted On: Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 - Posted By: GigTide

Problem

When I send my resume to a Microsoft Word.doc format , I am unable to correct the indentation errors that occur. The font is too small as well and I can’t make the necessary changes.

Solution

Since the information is coming from HTML, the Word Doc conversion actually puts everything in a table. You can do one of the following to accomplish your needs:

Word Slide Ruler

  • Adjust the margins of each cell by using the ruler at the top and save
  • Place the cursor in at the beginning of a paragraph
  • Adjust the margin using the ruler at the top, by dragging the item in the image below
  • Convert the table to text and save

In Word 2003?
Select the rows or table* that you want to convert to paragraphs. On the Table menu, point to Convert, and then click Table to Text.Under Separate text with, click the option for the separator character** you want to use in place of the column boundaries.Rows are separated with paragraph marks.

In Word 2007?
Select the rows or table that you want to convert to textIn the ribbon at the top, under “table tools”, choose “layout”On the right-hand side click “Convert to Text”This should allow you to edit the Word document as if it was originally created in Word to begin with.

 * A table is one or more rows of cells commonly used to display numbers and other items for quick reference and analysis. Items in a table are organized into rows and columns.

** Separator Characters are characters you choose to indicate where you want text to separate when you convert a table to text, or where you want new rows or columns to begin when you convert text to a table.
